Digestive Issues? You Might Want to Skip These Foods

It’s hard to think of a less glamorous topic to discuss than digestive issues. It’s helpful to those with rather sensitive digestive systems to know which types of foods to avoid.

Fried Foods: Fried chicken and onion rings are very popular staples of modern restaurants. Unfortunately, they are often the cause of some unpleasant trips to the bathroom.

Citrus Fruits: There are a lot of good things to say about citrus fruits. Their high fiber content doesn’t sit well with everyone, potentially leading to upset stomach.

High-Fiber Foods: Speaking of fiber, other types of high-fiber fare (such as veggies and whole grains) have been known to cause bloating and gas.

Dairy Products: Chances are you’ve heard the term “lactose intolerant” in the past. People with this condition have difficulty digesting sugars found in dairy products.

Fatty Foods: If you need another reason to stay away from fatty foods, consider this – such items can contribute to diarrhea and constipation. Some fatty foods which might have an adverse effect on our digestive system include red meats, butter and ice cream.

Sorbitol: What is sorbitol, you might be wondering? It’s an artificial sweetener used in a number of diet foods. Upon ingesting foods with this additive, some people might develop gas, bloating, and diarrhea.

Alcohol: The biggest drawback to alcohol is obvious – too much, and intoxication will surely result. What far fewer people are aware of is that alcohol can also be responsible for indigestion.

Caffeine: Countless people rely on caffeinated drinks to get them through eight-hour workdays. The drawback is that this stimulant can also expedite bowel movements, and perhaps result in diarrhea.
