The skin under your eyes is very thin and when blood passes through the large veins near the surface of the skin it usually causes a bluish tint.  Sun exposure does not help the appearance of the dark circles under your eye, it actually accentuates them. The sun increases the natural pigmentation in your skin which may make the circles appear darker. You also may have allergies or hay fever that brings out the circles under your eyes and make them puffy. Or you may be lacking sleep which causes your skin to look paler and the circles under your eyes will look darker.  Sometimes the darkness under your eyes might be because of genetics, dehydration, anxiety or stress. Which ever the cause, the question is how to get rid of the darkness besides using a makeup concealer. Fortunately, there are a few home remedies that will reduce the puffiness and lighten up the darkness under your eyes.

Freezing a Spoon – Take a spoon and put it in the freezer for ten minutes. When it is nice and cold place it under your eyes. This will create a soothing sensation.  Leave the spoon until it is warm.

Almond Oil – Using almond oil around your eyes is very nourishing. It will hydrate the dull skin under your eyes. Almond oil is also a natural anti-inflammatory so it could reduce puffiness.

Sliced Cucumbers – When you apply cucumbers to the skin around your eyes it can help reduce the appearance of dark circles.  Cucumbers have a cool and refreshing sensation. While the cucumbers are helping with the dark circles it is also relaxing your stressed eyes from looking at a computer all day.

Tea – Boil two tea bags and let them cool.  Once cool enough, squeeze over a bowl to drain any excess water. Then place each tea bag over your eyes.
